Astoria Palawan Resort, Philippines

Jan 27 - Jan 30, 2020

Astoria Palawan is a beautiful destination resort, in that everything you need is in the resort. Puerto Princesa is the gateway to El Nido on Palawan Island, so we decided to explore this resort close to Puerto Princesa airport before heading up to El Nido. The attached water park was a major reason we decided to stay here. They also provide transportation to nearby attractions as well, adding to the convenience factor of exploring Puerto Princesa.

Water Park

Voyagers tips: The primary draw of this resort is the amenities such as the waterpark, pools, kayaking, beaches, mini-golf and excursions. The lowest-priced rooms are perfectly fine as you get access to all of the same amenities. For best outdoor seating at the restaurant, make reservations ahead of time for dinner.

Around the Resort

The grounds at the resort is quite nice, the restaurant serves up quality meals and has a good blend of western and Asian food, but dinners are not cheap. There are certainly enough activities to stay entertained while relaxing.

The beautiful beach and sunset lighting makes for some amazing silhouette pictures.

Kayaking

There are some kayaking and Stand Up Paddle-board (SUPs) equipment for rent for resort guests. SUPs weren’t available when we were there, but kayaking was fun.

Voyagers tips: Check open hours and plan accordingly. It’s best to go an hour before closing time, as it’s too hot during the day, and they close relatively early.

The downside of this resort is that there isn’t much to do outside of the resort that’s within walking distance, and the restaurants across the street are mediocre. Entertainment at dinner time is a nice touch, be sure to make reservations for better seating.

The water park is a short walk from the resort and is surprisingly empty even when the resorts are busy. I guess most people are content just hanging out at the pools or doing other activities. There were only 4-5 other families at the entire water park during most of the day. The girls had a blast!

Voyagers tips: Ask for towels upon entering. The park has concrete flooring which hurts the feet after a while, and water shoes are overkill and unnecessary. Put a few strips of tape on the balls and heels of your feet to avoid the pain…or, you can just use the flip flops provided by the resort.
